Last year, the Wu-Tang Clan, arguably history's greatest rap crew, embarked on an arena tour that was billed as their farewell. Well, it turns out that wasn't the last last tour. See, that tour was a success. I didn't go, but the videos I saw looked great. This year, Wu-Tang are first-time nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. So why not run that farewell tour back again?
Honestly, I can't imagine that anyone is mad about this. If you like, you can look at the Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber tour as an extension of last year's tour. Or you could accuse them of being like the many, many aging rock bands who have gone out on farewell tours and then just kept going afterwards. But these guys should be allowed to take lucrative victory laps for the rest of their lives if they want. They can still perform, and there's still an audience, so why not?
Beyond its title, the promotional materials for the Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber tour don't have any more stuff about it being the group's goodbye, so maybe they're dropping the pretense. This time, they're doing amphitheaters, not arenas. Where Run The Jewels opened last year's tour, this one will feature fellow storied '90s rap legends Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, an inspired pairing.
