Courtney Barnett – “One Thing At A Time”

Lindsey Byrnes

On Friday, Australian indie rock guitar hero Courtney Barnett will release Creature Of Habit, her first album since leaving Melbourne for Los Angeles. We've already posted a bunch of early tracks: "Stay In Your Lane," the Waxahatchee collab "Site Unseen," the two-pack of "Mantis" and "Sugar Plum." Today, Barnett shares one final song before the LP arrives, and it's a good one.

"One Thing At A Time" is all about being hopelessly overwhelmed, and it starts out with a pleasantly ambling groove before building to some extremely satisfying crescendos. She's got Flea on bass for this one! That's cool! The OG Lance Bangs directed the great video, and it's got Barnett calmly shredding while hijinks erupt all around her. Are Los Angeles apartment complexes really this much fun? Something tells me that they're not. At a key moment, Barnett drives her truck into the Hollywood Hills. Then, while the camera swoops all around her, she calmly busts out a triumphant guitar solo while the sun sets over the LA skyline, like she's Slash. Check it out below.

Creature Of Habit is out 3/27 on Mom + Pop.
