Did anyone ever try to make a spy movie that was also a Western? Probably not, right? Those two genres don't exactly make intuitive sense together. It's hard to practice the delicate art of espionage in a rootin' tootin' saloon. But the two '60s film score styles would make a cool combination. For instance: Yttling Jazz and Bobby Gillespie have a new harmonica-laden lounge-lizard strut-song that would work really nicely in a movie about cowboy spies.
Bobby Gillespie is the veteran frontman of Scottish greats Primal Scream. You probably already knew that. You might have forgotten that Peter Björn And John's Björn Yttling makes solo music under then name Yttling Jazz, so that's me reminding you just now. Last year, Yttling released Illegal Hit, the first new Yttling Jazz album in 20 years. On Friday, he'll come out with a super-expanded three-disc edition that includes new songs, alternate versions, and guest appearances from the Tallest Man On Earth, El Perro Del Mar, Matt Sweeney, and Little Dragon's Yukimi. Yttling has worked on a few Primal Scream records, and now Gellespie joins him for the new song "Strange." Check it out below.
Illegal Hit (Out Of Bounds) is out 3/27 on YEAR0001.
