Magic Tuber Stringband – “Where The Place Becomes Forgetting”

Fiasco Media

Magic Tuber Stringband introduced their new album Heavy Water with "Tribute To The Angels," a traditional folk mirage that bled over into discordant new music without changing costumes. Today the Thrill Jockey signees have more pastoral beauty lined up for us. "Where The Place Becomes Forgetting" forgoes the waves of fiddles in favor of a plucking, strumming grownup lullaby.

The track features field recordings from the Savannah River Site in Northern Georgia, where fiddler Courtney Werner was conducting research into the enduring effects of nuclear production in the area. A word from the band:

The field recording in the background of this piece was taken at Craig’s Pond, a former fishing pond on the edge of the Savannah River Site. Because it is located at a remote boundary of the SRS, it is surrounded by barbed wire fences and marked with no trespassing signs warning visitors that they are at the edge of federal government property. The pond has a thriving ecosystem and was home to many rare plants and animals.
