When you read the band name "villagerrr," how do you mentally pronounce it? Is it just like "villager" without the extra letters? Or do you drag out the last syllable like you're high on cough syrup? What about the band members? How do they say it? When someone asks them what band they play in, do they just say the word, or do they spell it out? Am I thinking about this too much? I'm probably thinking about this too much.
Anyway, villagerrr started out as Columbus musician Mark Allen Scott's solo singer-songwriter project but then expanded into a full band, including h. pruz and members of Teethe and Hemlock, and signed to Winspear. Their new album Carousel is on the way, and we've posted lead single "Locket." Today, the band shares a pretty, downbeat new song called "Swimming."
"Locket" offers a lovely, bucolic take on slowcore, with some excellent pedal steel work from Zack Wiggs. villagerrr are currently on tour with Ratboys, and this is the kind of song that you want to hear at a Ratboys show. Scott says that the song is "about learning to communicate, express, and process your emotions in a healthy way." Check out the Trevor Hock-directed video below.
Carousel is out 5/29 on Winspear.
