1000 Rabbits – “Rubik’s Cube”

Ché Deedigan

The young-looking, Young-affiliated British post-punk band 1000 Rabbits impressed us greatly with their debut single "Virgin Soil." Today they've shared another promising track that "seemed to flow out of us."

1000 Rabbits built "Rubik's Cube" out of a previous idea called "The James Bond Song," and there's definitely a spy-movie element to its sound. The music once again makes fine use of subtly percussive guitar, eerie violin, and loud-quiet-loud dynamics. River, the vocalist, gets to let it rip, and by the end the band's carefully constructed drama has descended into chaos. Imagine the current version of Black Country, New Road but a bit more feral and a lot less twee.

"Thank you for dancing to Virgin Soil," the band writes. "We hope you dance to this too." Check out Cuan Roche's video for "Rubik's Cube" below.
