New Order (and Joy Division) were recently announced as members of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's Class Of 2026, and this November, they'll also be performing at the induction ceremony. That news spawned speculation that founding bassist Peter Hook might be rejoining the band: In the nearly two decades since his departure, Hook has been embroiled in a verbal and legal feud with New Order frontman Bernard Sumner, and Hook doesn't seem pleased with the musical direction New Order have taken without him. In a new interview with Rolling Stone this week, Hook cleared the air on how he plans to spend this year's Rock Hall induction ceremony.
Hook was asked whether or not he'd stand with his ex-New Order bandmates at the podium during the induction: "No. No. Not after what they did to me and my family, no... I won't stand with them." Then, he was asked if he'd oblige to a 15-minute truce to perform together. He had this to say:
Well, that’s slightly different, isn’t it? I haven’t spoken to Bernard for... I didn’t even speak to him. He spoke at me. That’ll be 15 years. Steve [Morris] and I spoke about four or five years ago, but that wasn’t a friendly moment. And I haven’t spoken to Gillian [Gilbert] in 15 years. So, it doesn’t look good, mate...
If Bernard pops his head around and goes, “Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years wages. I’m really sorry about it. We should maybe have just had a chat about it.” So you never know, dear. Life is full of surprises. I’m sure that could be a lovely one. Let’s face it, you couldn’t have better mentors than Liam and Noel [Gallagher].
Oasis, too, will be inducted into the Rock Hall this year. "Maybe Liam and Noel could be the intermediaries that you’re looking for," Hook told Rolling Stone. "They might be like, “Okay you two. Let’s shake hands and get up there and play ‘Transmission,’ ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart,’ and ‘Blue Monday.'” He also wore an Oasis shirt in an Instagram video expressing gratitude over the Rock Hall news.
We'll find out if Sumner apologized to Hook when the induction ceremony goes down on Nov. 14.
