I tend to get Bristol's Froglord mixed up with all the other current bands with the word "Frog" in their names, but that always changes when I hit play on one of their tracks. When I do that, I'm like, "Oh right, this is the Frog band that kicks ass." Their new single "Croak" is a prime example.

Unlike the other Frog bands, Froglord make psychedelic doom metal — music that could accurately be described as "swampy." They've also built up a whole cosmology about something called the Mystic Toad, so they're true to this frog shit. (Every kid knows that frogs are not toads, but every kid also knows that Frog and Toad are friends.)

"Croak" is the first new Froglord track since they released their album Metamorphosis last year, and it's so sick. It's got tons of big, crusty riffs, and the chorus is the whole band chanting the word "Croak" like they're Benedictine monks. I'm getting serious Butthole Surfers vibes from the burly, echo-drenched vocals. Check out the video below.

The "from the motion picture Frogman Returns" thing on the cover is a joke; it turns out that an indie horror film called Frogman Returns actually did come out last year.
