It's been almost six years since Told Slant released Point The Flashlight And Walk, our Album Of The Week. Now, Felix Walworth is back with the announcement of a new record endearingly titled What's Up. The lead single, "Manhattan," is out today.
The song is inspired by "New York becoming a shrine to capitalism and the underground being unable to mount any effective resistance," Walworth says, adding that "this whole other set of knowledge of what living in the city as an artist could be, both from living it, and from my parents... The defeat of the song is all of those people’s dreams being crushed."
What's Up has drums, bass, and guitar tracked by Walworth with Hannah Pruzinsky and Florist bandmate Jonnie Baker. It was made in a makeshift studio they built upstate for a month, recording to an eight-track reel-to-reel. Other contributors include Ceci Sturman, Hellen Ballentine, Emily Sprague, Mari Rubio, and Elijah Wolf. Check out "Manhattan" below.
