Olivia Dean's ascent has been swift. Earlier this year, the pop star received her first Grammy nomination and ended up taking the trophy home, winning Best New Artist. Now, her hit "Rein Me In" with Sam Fender has broken a record, becoming the UK's longest-running #1 single by British artists.
The song has been at the top of the chart for 16 weeks, surpassing Wet Wet Wet's 1994 track "Love Is All Around" and equalling Canadian singer Bryan Adams' 1991 classic "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You."
Fender discussed the news in a video for Official Charts on social media saying, "I am sweating profusely and buzzing to announce that 'Rein Me In' is the longest-running British single at #1 of all time. I've never had a #1 single before anyway. Me and Olivia got together and did this and the first #1 in Ireland, I was like, 'Yes, get in!' And then the #1 in the UK, I was like, 'OK, that's a first.' Then the second week was insane. And then every single week it's been ridiculous. Every Friday, it's been an excuse to party. So it needs to stop soon because I'm gonna die."
The track was released in June of last year as a remix of the solo version on his album People Watching. It's not Dean's first #1; her single "Man I Need" achieved #1 on the UK charts last year. Witness Fender's excitement below.
