Victoria Monét is going for it! The Atlanta-born singer started out as one of Ariana Grande's main co-writers before becoming a straight-up R&B star herself with her excellent 2023 album Jaguar II. She won the Grammy for Best New Artist, and then she largely stepped back for a little while. Earlier this year, Monét shared the slightly sleepy ballad "Let Me" and announced plans to join the European leg of Bruno Mars' stadium tour. But now, Monét is finally ready to announce another album, and her new single suggests a big step in a cool new direction.
This fall, Victoria Monét will release her new album Frequency Of Love. Just in case you didn't notice, she is butt naked on the cover art. You know, if you care about that sort of thing. What was I talking about? Oh, right. Album. We don't have most of the details on Frequency Of Love of love yet, but the new single "Reach Out" is a sleek, shimmery, atmospheric track with a tasteful house thump. It sounds like maybe Monét absorbed Beyoncé's Renaissance in the same way that some of us did. We can hope.
Past Victoria Monét collaborators Kaytranada and D'Mile produced "Reach Out." Monét co-wrote it with those two, as well as Tommy Parker, Ernest McFall, and James Porter. The track has an extremely cool video. Veteran flash channeler Dave Meyers directed the clip, shooting it in sepia-style black-and-white to recall early-'90s classics like "Vogue." Monét and her dancers move through a geometrically absorbing brutalist landscape; Sean Bankhead did the hypnotic choreography. I could watch this thing all day. Check it out below.
