Told Slant – “Draw Blood”

3:05 PM EDT on August 4, 2026

Last month Told Slant announced their new record What's Up and released the lead single "Manhattan." Today the NYC indie mainstay is back with some more quintessential NYC indie, this time in the form of a beautiful yet bleak song called "Draw Blood."

"I think there is a frustration on this record, a set of grievances that feels so overwhelming to me, that the only way I felt I could express it was in religious appeals," Felix Walworth says of the song. "When you are defeated entirely, what do you have other than prayer?"

The lyrics of "Draw Blood" read like that of a psalm: "And with this breath, polluted/ I hold in my lungs/ I curse your disciples/ And pray for the flood." Mundanity and fantasy are woven together with masterful imagery, and the guitars are dejected but hypnotic. Listen below.
