Ella Langley Ties Record For Longest-Running #1 Song That’s Not About Christmas

Ella Langley's adorably heartbroken country hit "Choosin' Texas" came out in October 2025, and it's by far the biggest chart hit of the 2026 calendar year. The song first reached #1 on the Hot 100 back in February. Other songs have ascended to the top of the charts and knocked "Choosin' Texas" off, but it just keeps coming back. This week, "Choosin' Texas" is back at #1 for its 19th week, which puts Langley in a three-way tie for the longest-running #1 hit in Hot 100 history, non-Christmas division.

The actual longest-running #1 hit of all time is Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You." That song first came out in 1994, but thanks to a Billboard rule change, it first reached #1 in 2019, and it has returned to #1 during the holiday season every year since then. Last year, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" broke the all-time record, and it has now spent 22 weeks at #1. It'll probably just keep adding to that total every December, unless Billboard changes its rules again.

As for the non-Christmas songs, "Choosin' Texas" now joins an elite club of recent country-ish songs. In 2019, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' "Old Town Road" broke the 16-week record previously held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day," and it went on to hold the #1 spot for 19 weeks. In 2024, Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" tied that record, and now "Choosin' Texas" has tied it again. It seems likely that Ella Langley will break the Lil Nas X/Shaboozey record next week and maybe even temporarily threaten Mariah Carey's crown.

Right now, the top of the Hot 100 is very stagnant, with very little movement in the top 10. This week, Stella Lefty's "Boston" moves up to a new peak of #2. Ella Langley once again has three songs in the top 10, with her Morgan Wallen duet "I Can't Love You Anymore" at #6 and her solo song "Be Her" at #10. The week's highest debut is KATSEYE's "Hootie Frutti," but that's way down at #31. With the release of her album Lost Weekend, Phoebe Bridgers now has four songs on the Hot 100, but they're all near the bottom of the chart.
