Carissa's Wierd, the Seattle-based duo of Jenn Champion and Mat Brooke, made some absolutely gorgeous DIY indie records back in the early '00s, and now they're doing it again. The group broke up way back in 2003 and then spun off into other acts, including Band Of Horses. (Brooke was an original member, and former Carissa's Wierd leader Ben Bridwell still leads them.) After a one-off reunion single in 2011, Carissa's Wierd are back together and getting ready to release Somewhere Further Than Far Away, their first album in 25 years. We've already heard the stunning lead single "No One Lives Here Anymore." Now, they've got another one.
The new Carissa's Wierd song is called "I Don't Feel Like I Feel Right" — good title — and it's just as stirringly pretty as "No One Lives Here Anymore." Champion's conversational, homespun vocals still hit unbelievably hard over those twinkly guitars; it's enough to make me feel unstuck in time. Champion says, "Mat and I have lived a lot of lives together. This is kind of a reckoning with our past and present, and how a relationship can feel fated to be no matter what happens along the way." Check out the video below.
Somewhere Further Than Far Away is out 1/8 on Nettwerk.
