Land Of Talk, the long-running indie rock project from the Montreal musician Lizzie Powell, will release their new album LASTS next month, and we've already posted their lead single "4:44." That LP happens to have consecutive tracks called "Dogs" and "Cats," and it only makes sense to release two two songs together.
"Dogs" is a bleary, clangorous track, and a press release claims that it comes from Powell attempting to "write a song that sounds the way listening to the Cure makes them feel" — a cool idea, even if it reminds me more of one of the Sonic Youth tracks where Kim Gordon sang lead. "Cats," meanwhile, is a hip-swaying lope with just a bit of skronk in its groove. I think I prefer "Dogs," but maybe that's just because I prefer dogs. They're both cool, just like both animals are cool. Ana-Maria Espino Trudel directed videos for both tracks, and you can check them out below.
LASTS is out 11/13 on Saddle Creek.
