Last week, Interscope sued Summer Walker for $50 million after the singer-songwriter announced she was departing the label. Interscope claimed she still owed them two studio albums and an EP under a deal she signed in 2017. Now, the Atlanta musician is suing her other label LVRN (Love Renaissance) for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.
Walker is accusing LVRN of fraudulently withholding money and abusing the control it has over her as an artist. She claims the firm improperly diverted money from her touring, recording, marketing, and merchandising budgets, while charging excessive company expenses to those accounts in bad faith. She also asserts that they ran a YouTube page in her name and sold merch that used her name and likeness without informing or paying her. She says they eventually gave her control of the YouTube page but first deleted its historical data and never paid her the associated revenue.
"The LVRN Agreement granted particularly oppressive and extensive rights to defendant, and controlling influence over Walker," the complaint reads, according to Rolling Stone, who obtained it. "Defendant has breached its fiduciary duties of good faith and fair dealing so severely as to cause a breach of the agreement by defendant."
Walker seeks for her 2017 agreement with the label to be declared "void and unenforceable," as well as compensatory and punitive damages in amounts to be determined by the court.
