Heaven Is A Place In France

Our favorite Go-Go Belinda Carlisle recently wrapped a 25th anniversary tour of Beauty and the Beat, which featured the album played live in sequence. She now lives in the South of France and is releasing Voila, an album of French classics produced by Massive Attack and Portishead. Nerve caught up with Belinda through the magic of telephone. She looks pretty good for 47...

Unless that's an old photo.

NERVE: So the infamous Go-Go's roadie tape has been circulating [featuring several of the Go-Go's harassing a drunken roadie, and Carlisle babbling in a chemically induced haze]. What are your thoughts about that now?
BELINDA CARLISLE [Groans] It's embarrassing and awful. If you're going to do something so stupid, don't do it on camera. It doesn't make me uncomfortable, because it was over twenty years ago, but I'll tell you what: It's a good anti-drug film. And it's something I really regret. It was complete stupidity.

NERVE: Hilary Duff did a remake of the song "Our Lips Our Sealed" with her sister Haylie. Have you heard it?
BELINDA CARLISLE: I haven't. It was a big hit there, wasn't it? Wait, who did it again?

NERVE: Hilary Duff.
BELINDA CARLISLE: No, I haven't heard it. She's a cute girl, and I'm sure she did a good job with it. But it's the writers who handle those things. And believe me, there are certain decisions I don't agree with. [Commercial jingle] "We Got the Beef," for example, because it sends the wrong message.

We think Of Montreal would disagree. Hey, wasn't "We Got The Beef" an unreleased "Weird Al" song?

Why isn't that roadie tape on YouTube? Who's got a link?
