Berlin-via-Manchester shadow builder Holy Other is releasing his debut single on Transparent. The songs have a hollowed-out darkness to them that goes better with morose, romantic Norwegian Svarte Grenier's gorgeous Knive or more recent Penpals Forever (And Ever) than a lot of the zeitgeist-y bedroom stuff we've been hearing in 2010. It's dancier than Svarte, isn't as heavy or abstract, but it inserts a patient darkness where a lot of other stuff feels too happy partying with last-year's hipsters beneath the blackened smoke and mirrors.
