Jane’s Contradiction: Dave Navarro Parries In Response To Perry

NME reports that nipple-ringed guitar hero Dave Navarro has taken up his defense in response to Perry Farrell's inconsistent statements about the cause of Jane's cessation. The group parted ways in '91 and properly reformed to release Strays in '03 ... and that was pretty forgettable. Since then, Perry's cast blame on Dave's MTV show Rock Star for the band's subsequent dissolution, saying, "My band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it," -- which the guitarist has taken to the Navarro blog to debunk:

The timeline just doesn't make sense. I didn't even get a call about the idea of Rock Star until The Panic Channel was recording demos with Brian Virtue. Wait. What happened to this quote? "Music that was once relevant and graceful had become clumsy as a circus seal tooting his horns? Jane doesn't strip for anyone but me. I brought Jane's Addiction to life, it is only fitting that I am the one to bury her." Or this one?

"I haven't spoken to them (guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins) since they broke the band up. (They) never called me. They went to Rolling Stone to (talk) about their new project (The Panic Channel). I read about it online." OK. So which is it? Rock Star? He broke it up? We did? Either way it was four years ago so I think it's about time to let it go. Why respond to this now? Well, I let it alone for a few days but it just keeps getting picked up by different news sources everyday. Damn! Doesn't anyone write their own stories anymore?

Sad to see what's become of the men behind classics like Nothing's Shocking and Ritual; Perry with his Jim Morrisson collaborations and Dave with his indulgent celebreality indiscretions. As for the timeline of Jane's demise, maybe Perry meant 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave? Although that had nothing to do with music ... it was just incredibly lame. Thankfully Perry has Satellite Party to restore balance to the post-Jane's continuum.
