Good news indie-folkers: the first single from bearded Sam Beam's LP number three is a knockout. "Boy With A Coin" sets multi-tracked Beams to a djembe, handclaps, and a fully realized production palette couching Sam's acoustic "African-sounding guitar thing" intraveling bass and wet, scene-setting electric guit work. No doubt Iron & Wine's working with a beefed-up studio budget, and it's a relief to hear the Sub Pop singer-songwriter avoiding the overwrought schlock trap. Have a listen at MOKB.
The Shepherd's Dog is tentatively due out this September on Sub Pop.
