Clay Ruby's a member of one of our 18 Dark Bands To Watch Horrid Red, but he's probably better known for his equally dark one-man project, Burial Hex. On this version of "The Far," Ruby handles keys, electronics, and some voice and gets a helping hand from Horrid Red cohort Edmund Xavier (guitar, additional keys) and, probably more noticeably, blustery vocals from Zola Jesus. It's a radio edit of a 20-minute track due out on a 12" by Italian label Holiday Records -- goes without saying it should star at your goth dance party this (or any) weekend.
Burial Hex (Feat Zola Jesus) - "The Far (Horrid Red Radio Remix)"
The lyrics, written by Ruby:
How delicate this day
Old ghosts find new smiles
Unconscious display
Inside their robes are sewn the heavensBeaming off your face
the light of agesHope they won't watch what they say
Lay in wait and pray for us,
to see what the moon can doFrom grottoes of the dark, we hear the calling
Hidden from the hidingHope they won't watch what they say
Pray for us and lay in wait
to see what the moon can doSo the fires are lit
and the tone rings outThe hiding man
The holding handThe fires are lit
and the leaf is fallenThe pulsing wave
The blushing faceAnd the fires are lit
and the avalanchesand the final blow
and The Far to goNow the fires are lit
and the fallen will climbThe blinking eye
The ending time
