Damon Albarn – “Photographs” (Teaser)
It seems impossible that the release of Damon Albarn’s solo debut, Everyday Robots, is still more than two months away. The album’s first teaser video was posted in early December, and considering the state of its press blitz at this very moment (which includes a goddamned half-hour documentary that aired on BBC TV last week), you’d think this thing was coming out tomorrow. But no — today brings only another teaser video, for the album track “Photographs.” Mercifully, this thing clocks in at a minute and a half (unlike the 21-second teasers we were getting for the first month or so of this press cycle), and if you didn’t know in advance it was truncated, you might just assume it was a new song presented in its entirety: a really short, really, really great new song. Check it out.
In related news, as part of his unending pre-release publicity tour, Damon talked to Rolling Stone, and spoke a bit about the future of Blur — from whom a new album has been long rumored. But, says Damon, if it ever does happen, it won’t be anytime soon. He told RS:
“I just haven’t got the time. We put in a good shift last year and played a lot of gigs around the world. Everyone’s off doing other stuff at the moment … There is material. But I can’t foresee us in the near future being in a position to finish it. We’re just all doing other stuff.”
AGGGHHHHH. Damon, you are doing a half-year-long pre-album push! It’s ludicrously excessive! And now you aren’t doing a new Blur album because you’re too busy doing “other stuff”?! Even though you have the songs written?! AGGGHHH.
Everyday Robots is out 4/29 on Warner Bros.
