Merchandise – “Figured Out”
The torrent of Record Store Day releases continues with a new split LP called USA ’13 featuring Merchandise, Destruction Unit, and Milk Music via Chaos In Tejas imprint 540 Records. One of Merchandise’s contributions, “Figured Out,” finds the former Florida hardcore combo sounding more like the Smiths than ever yet somehow also feels like this project coming into its own. Turns out these guys were meant to make anthems. Built on airy acoustic strums and reverb-drenched drums, “Figured Out” is brighter, bolder, and more outright poppy than last year’s moodily skronking Totale Night EP, and it triggers my pleasure centers in a way that suggests “Figured Out” is an utterly appropriate title.
