The long-awaited seventh LP from English industrial pioneers Godflesh, A World Lit Only By Fire, made our list of 2014’s most anticipated albums, at which point the thing was due early in the year. It’s now been pushed back to “this fall,” but today, Justin Broadrick (Jesu, Pale Sketcher) and GC Green dropped a new song and announced a new EP to precede A World Lit Only By Fire. The four-song release will be called Decline & Fall, it will drop on June 26, and its opening track is called “Ringer,” which you can listen to right now. It’s been 13 years since the last Godflesh album, and 26 years since the band’s formation, but “Ringer” could not be mistaken for the work of any other band, in 1988, 2001, 2014, or even in whichever horrible dystopic Blade Runner-y future year for which Godflesh have spent their career preparing the soundtrack.
