Stream Alraune The Process Of Self-Immolation (Stereogum Premiere)
Like California’s Ash Borer or New York’s Yellow Eyes, Nashville quartet Alraune are a young American band who play brutally raw, Weakling-derived black metal with crazily ambitious and unexpected compositional choices, and some mighty, meaty hooks throughout. (Appropriately, Alraune will open several dates on the highly anticipated upcoming Ash Borer North American tour.) Last year, Alraune released a two-song cassette, via fellow Nashville resident/Loss frontman Mike Meachem, which caught the attention of the seminal metal indie labels Gilead Media (who booked the band to play their awesome festival in Oshkosh, WI) and Profound Lore (who signed the band). Now, Alraune’s debut LP, The Process Of Self-Immolation, is set for release, and though it’s not out till next week, we’ve got it for you to stream today. The album is only five songs deep — four if you subtract the minute-long “prelude” — but it adds up to 40 vicious, cathartic, sweat-soaked minutes, climaxing in the amazing 11-minute-plus title track. Listen.
The Process Of Self-Immolation is out 6/24 via Profound Lore.
