It turns out that Montage Of Heck, HBO's forthcoming Kurt Cobain documentary executive produced by Frances Bean Cobain, is getting a full theatrical release ahead of its 5/4 HBO debut. Starting 4/10, Montage Of Heck will be shown in 72 countries, and theatrical runs in Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle begin 4/24 -- thus qualifying the film for next year's Academy Awards. "Within 90 days, the whole world will have access to the film," director Brett Morgen told Billboard at SXSW, where the film screened yesterday. A DVD release is expected in November.
