Joan Shelley – “Over And Even”
Joan Shelley is a Kentucky singer/songwriter with a voice like burnished gold. “Stay On My Shore” was the debut single off Shelley’s latest album Over And Even, and today she’s released the title track. “Over And Even” kicks off with a fingerpicked patchwork of chords that lean toward bluegrass — that’d be Nathan Salsburg plucking the warmest, richest sound out of an ordinary acoustic guitar. Sometimes the chords are so syrupy they almost sound like harp music; other times, they rescind even farther into the background so Shelley’s voice is spotlighted. It’s a song about repetition and the meticulous, tiny patterns that keep our lives spinning on. Listen below.
