If Essex audio-visual artist Sim Hutchins had emerged in the late ’90s, we’d call his music IDM for the way its instrumental electronic components creep, flicker, and boom. “Tie Me To A Rocket (And Point Me At The Ground),” from Hutchins’ forthcoming debut album I Enjoy To Sweep A Room, marks him as a peer of Four Tet, Thom Yorke, and Andy Stott. Like the best producers of his ilk, Hutchins molds his stuttering beats and frigid ambient sounds into something just short of pop music without compromising its essential eerie qualities.
