Beleaguered Phil Anselmo Sings Boyz II Men With His Black Friends
Phil Anselmo, man. I don’t even know. Last month, the former Pantera frontman was sloppy-ass drunk onstage at Dimebash, a show that honored his late Pantera bandmate Dimebag Darrell. As the show was ending, he threw a Nazi salute and yelled, “White power!” He first said that it was an inside joke involving white wine, and then he issued several emotional apologies. When the Dutch festival FortaRock canceled a performance from his New Orleans metal supergroup Down, he offered to quit the band and let them go on without him. And I don’t know if this is part of the grand apology tour or just another example of Anselmo being drunk in public, but he put in an appearance this past weekend at Atlanta’s Days Of The Dead horror convention and maybe, possibly, tried to make some amends.
Blabbermouth has the report on the whole messy scene. During an event called Scaryokee, Atlanta R&B group the A League sang the classic 1991 Boyz II Men ballad “End Of The Road” — a song that, perhaps significantly, is about tearful reconciliation — and they brought Anselmo onstage. Anselmo didn’t sing — probably a merciful thing, when you consider what his voice would do to a song like that. But he did stay onstage the whole time, hugging members of the group over, and doing a backwards somersault at one point. During the show, he also sang the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” Watch fan-made videos of both below.
Scaryokee definitely lived up to the hype tonight

Look, maybe Anselmo is entirely sincere. Hopefully, by now, he realizes that it’s not cool to pull shit like that, even in drunken jest.
