Katy B x Chris Lorenzo – “I Wanna Be”
Katy B is set to drop her collaborative album Honey later this spring. We’ve already heard an unlikely combination with Craig David and Major Lazer on “Who Am I” the Kaytranada-assisted title track, and the Four Tet/Floating Points collab “Calm Down.” Today she shares the Chris Lorenzo-assisted “I Wanna Be.”
As an electro dance beat builds slowly underneath her, Katy longingly asserts her hopes for a love that makes her better as an individual. She sings, “I wanna be where you’re taking me higher/ I wanna be in your arms/ I wanna be where my dreams transpire/ Don’t leave me here in the dark,” with bouncy synths and pulsing drums swirling around her. Atmospheric sweeps bring the energy down a bit, only to punch it back up for the end. It’s a party-ready song that will make you want to dance with a fellow club dweller and make you wonder what will happen beyond the dance floor. Liquor, dancing, and longing can be a dangerous combination, but whatever it may bring you, “I Wanna Be” is the perfect soundtrack. Listen.
Honey is out 4/29 on Rinse/Virgin EMI. Pre-order is available here.
