Fall Out Boy – “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)” (Feat. Missy Elliott)
Most of the online bellyaching about the new Ghostbusters movie seems to revolve around the fact that the new Ghostbusters are — gasp, faint — women. But if you look harder, you can find better reasons to be suspicious of thing thing — like the deeply shitty CGI effects in the trailers, or like “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid),” the new version of the movie’s theme, which just hit the internet this morning. For the movie’s soundtrack, Fall Out Boy put together a ghastly quasi-dubstep version of Ray Parker, Jr.’s theme to the original 1984 Ghostbusters movie. The only remotely redeeming thing about this new version of the theme is a deeply silly Missy Elliott guest verse, and it would take a lot more than that to make this song OK. It’s not like the original Ghostbusters song is an untouchable classic — it was, after all, a legally actionable Huey Lewis rip-off — but it didn’t deserve this. But because I know you’re curious, you can hear this car wreck for yourself below.
The Ghostbusters soundtrack and movie are both out 7/15. We’ve also posted Elle King’s soundtrack single “Good Girls.”
