M.I.A. Accuses MTV VMAs Of Racism And Classism For Not Nominating Her
The MTV Video Music Awards have been the source of a weirdly huge amount of controversy. All of the Kanye West/Taylor Swift drama that’s been in the news recently began at the 2009 VMAs, and last year, Nicki Minaj got into a spat with Swift after calling out MTV for snubbing her “Feeling Myself” video. M.I.A. is no stranger to controversy either, and this year, it’s her turn to accuse the VMAs of being racist. This year’s Video Of The Year nominees, announced a couple of days ago, include Beyoncé’s “Formation,” Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Adele’s “Hello,” Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” and Kanye West’s “Famous,” but not M.I.A.’s Syrian refugee-supporting “Borders,” and M.I.A. is not happy about that. “Racism sexism classism elitism…This is a perfect example of ‘allowed’ voice vs excluded voices,” she tweeted, among other things. BORDERS came representing people outside US showing 🌍. This is a perfect example of "allowed" voice vs excluded voices .Even if U direct it.
