Jay Z Announces Film & TV Deal With The Weinstein Company
Jay Z probably said it best himself: “I’m not a businessman. I’m a business, man.” Mr. Carter has just inked yet another deal, this time with perennial Oscar contender The Weinstein Company. Jay signed a two-year deal where TWC will have the first-look options with him to produce both scripted and unscripted television and film projects. Projects under the umbrella of this deal are already in the works and will be announced soon according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Brooklyn mogul had this to say about the deal:
I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight. Harvey and David are visionaries both of whom have done this time and time again. I’m already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to discovering others.
Jay has starred in the 2014 Annie remake, Chris Rock’s Top Five, and has an executive producer credit on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. And of course we can’t forget hood classics like State Property, Streets Is Watching, and his production credit on Paid In Full.
