Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
It’s the first week of a new year, which means the Coachella lineup is out: Radiohead, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Hans Zimmer (!), Show Me The Body (?!). The Indio fest was also the subject of hot takes this week as folks remembered that Coachella is operated by Goldenvoice which is owned by AEG Live, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Corporation, which is run by a billionaire who has donated money to some despicable causes over the years. Should we boycott Coachella? Maybe! Should we also boycott AEG’s Mercury Lounge? Hm. I’m not saying we have to just accept that the world is run by evil monsters, just that this new outrage seems a bit arbitrary. (Do boycott Terminal 5 though.) I have posted this story about 50 times on SG but I always feel the need to make it known that the Murphys were the favorite band of a friend of mine who died of cancer a few years back. When she was fighting it, the band lent their logo to her “Dropkick Cancer” fundraising campaign and played a private show in her hospital room, in gowns and masks and latex gloves. I will forever love the Dropkick Murphys even though I never liked the Dropkick Murphys. |

It’s hard for me to think of a band that has been a bigger disappoint from it’s debut album to all of the rest than the Shins. ‘Oh Inverted World’ is so amazing and then just…meh. |
