Watch Father John Misty Play “Ballad Of The Dying Man” On Colbert
Two and a half years ago, when he was getting ready to release I Love You, Honeybear into the world, Father John Misty gave an irony-drenched, instantly notorious Letterman performance. We are now a mere two days away from the release of Pure Comedy, the stunning and ambitious new FJM album. And last night, Josh Tillman returned to the Ed Sullivan Theater stage, serving as musical guest on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. He sang “Ballad Of The Dying Man,” a song written from the perspective of someone breathing his last breaths, who realizes that he’ll no longer be able to project his opinions online. And he brought with him a huge backing band, including a large and impressive complement of backing singers. But Tillman himself is still the thing you’ll probably remember from this performance. That man has some penetrating eyes. Check it out below.
Pure Comedy is out 4/7 on Sub Pop.
