SZA – “Supermodel” Video
Last month, SZA finally released her long-awaited debut, Ctrl, and now she’s started putting out videos for tracks from it. We’ve already seen one for “Drew Barrymore,” with a cameo from Barrymore herself, and today SZA has shared a new clip for “Supermodel.” It was directed by all-time-great Nabil and features SZA emerging from a carnival-esque tent in the middle of the woods and following a glittering group of kids to a schoolyard where they throw firecrackers at a man’s feet. Check it out below.
In a new profile for The Guardian, SZA talked about her debut album’s numerous delays. Her process of continual self-editing was eventually cut off by someone, presumably from her label. “They just took my hard drive from me. That was all. I just kept fucking everything up. I just kept moving shit around. I was choosing from 150, 200 songs, so I’m just like, who knows what’s good any more?,” she said. She doesn’t know exactly who took her hard drive, and she also says the version of Ctrl that was released wasn’t what she settled on: “Give me another month and it would have been something completely different.”
Ctrl is out now via TDE/RCA.
