Archy Marshall Celebrates 10 Years Of A New Place 2 Drown With Instrumentals And Unearthed Song “When And Why”

Archy Marshall

Exactly 10 years ago today, the murky, mysterious UK artist King Krule, who was 21 at the time, released A New Place 2 Drown, an album that came out under his given name Archy Marshall. A New Place 2 Drown came out as the soundtrack to a book of art and poems from Marshall and his brother Jack. It's not an official King Krule album. but lots of people put it right up there with the best King Krule albums. Today, the artist is celebrating that anniversary by releasing an instrumental edition of the LP, along with an unearthed track from the same era.

The remastered instrumental record A New Place 2 Drown (Instrumentals) makes it clear just how much Archy Marshall picking up from indie-rap production at the time. It's coming out at the same time as "When And Why," a mythic track that Marshall debuted in a guest appearance on Mount Kimbie’s NTS residency. That song works in the same foggy deep-concentration way as the music on A New Place 2 Drown. It wasn't online before today. Check out the instrumental record and "When And Why" below.

A New Place 2 Drown (Instrumentals) and "When And Why" are out now on True Panther/XL. King Krule recently appeared on Tara Lily's "Tropical Storm."
