Colin Stetson, Greg Fox, and Trevor Dunn are all big deals in the world of avant-garde music. Stetson is known for his ominous baritone-sax drones and for his disquieting scores for films like Hereditary and The Menu. Martha Stewart is not a fan. Drummer Greg Fox has been in bands like Liturgy and Zs. Bassist Trevor Dunn is a downtown veteran who is also in the Mike Patton bands Tomahawk and Fantômas. The three of them have intersected many times over the years, and now they're going to release a collaborative album that they recorded a long time ago.
Back in 2018, Colin Stetson, Greg Fox, and Trevor Dunn got together to make an improvisational record. Eight years later, it's finally about to come out as the first in a series of collaborative improv records from Stetson. The record is called Nethering, and it opens with the title track, a freaky-deaky eight-minute wig-out from three people who seem very attuned to one another's frequencies. Submit to its wildness below.
