Megadeth Earn First #1 Album With Farewell LP

Megadeth are saying their goodbyes with one last album, a farewell tour, and a career-spanning documentary called Megadeth: Behind The Mask in which band mastermind Dave Mustaine offers a closing word on his legacy. They're going out on top — at least the top of the charts. The self-titled LP just debuted at #1, the band's first album to reach the summit of the Billboard 200.

According to Billboard, Megadeth racked up 73,000 equivalent album units, with 69,000 of those via album sales — 56,000 of them physical sales, 22,000 of them on vinyl. The other 4,000 units of the 73,000 total are accounted for by 4.23 million on-demand track streams. This marks the biggest one-week sales figure for a Megadeth album since 1999's Risk debuted with 74,000. The band's previous high point on the chart was #2 with 1992's Countdown To Extinction. That was the first of nine top-10 albums for the band.

Megadeth waited more than 40 years for their first #1 album. Their first release to crack the Billboard 200 was their 1986 sophomore album Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, which eventually peaked at #76. Their 1985 debut Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good! did not chart.

The rest of the top 10 includes Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, Zach Bryan, A$AP Rocky (last week's #1), Taylor Swift, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, KPop Demon Hunters, Bad Bunny, and SZA.
