Bosse-de-Nage – “In The Name Of The Moth”

Bobby Cochran

Blackgaze veterans Bosse-de-Nage will return this March with their first album in eight years, Hidden Fires Burn Hottest. The San Francisco combo announced the album with the release of its gorgeously chaotic lead single "No Such Place," and today they've got another one.

According to vocalist and lyricist Bryan Manning, the seven-minute slow build "In The Name Of The Moth" is "probably the most adventurous song" on the new LP and "generally speaking is one of our more unusual moments as a band." Long stretches of the track remind me more of AmRep-style Midwestern noise rock than black metal or shoegaze, so I tend to agree with his assessment. Manning continues:

It’s heavy, and even sort of groovy at times, and there’s not a blast beat in sight. The lyrics are inspired by the dream logic and juxtaposition of images utilized by the surrealist movement and offer some kind of lens through which the cut up sequence in the middle of track can be viewed.
