Chappell Roan sadly didn't win any Grammys last night, but she stirred up conversation regardless. Part of the singer's charm is her commitment to stealing the spotlight with extravagant looks, and she did it again at LA's Crypto.com Arena by wearing a sheer gown hanging from nipple rings (it's sort of hard to explain, but luckily it is pictured above).
The unconventional dress predictably sparked many reactions, and Roan addressed it in an Instagram post saying: "Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will it's really fun and silly :D"
The look is Mugler, designed by Miguel Castro Freitas. It also featured tattoos by Jenny Collins and Buccellati jewelry. In her Instagram post, stylist Genesis Webb wrote, "This isn't casual," adding, "They're prosthetics, don't take it down !!"
Meanwhile on the red carpet Sabrina Carpenter alluded to Roan's infamous confrontation with a photographer at the 2024 VMAs: "You guys are so quiet this year. Chappell really started a movement," Carpenter said. At the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony last year photographers were warned to be quiet before Roan appeared.
Last night Roan's "The Subway" was nominated for Record Of The Year, which she lost to Kendrick Lamar & SZA's "Luther." That song was also nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, but Lola Young's "Messy" prevailed.
@glamouruk Not #ChappellRoan accidentally setting a whole new cultural norm in motion. #SabrinaCarpenter noted how the red carpet at the #GRAMMY awards this year was weirdly quiet: “Chappell really started a movement.” ?: @Vogue
