Heavenly – “Scene Stealing”

Alison Wonderland

Back in the '90s, Oxford's Heavenly were key players in the UK's C86 twee-pop universe. They broke up after drummer Mathew Fletcher's 1996 death, but they've returned in recent years, playing live shows and releasing new music. In a few weeks, they'll unveil Highway To Heavenly, their first new album in 30 years. We've posted the early tracks "Portland Town" and "Excuse Me," and they've got another new track today.

The new song "Scene Stealing" is the opening track on Highway To Heavenly, and it's got the right kind of energy for a band that's coming back after an extended hiatus. "Scene Stealing" is a bright, boppy, energetic number with classic pop harmonies and a great little DIY arrangement. Bassist Rob Pursey says that the song is "about YouTubers," which is fun. They've also got a Spanish-language version of the song called "Roba Escenas." check out both below.

Highway To Heavenly is out 2/27 on skepwax040.
