The LA-based singer-songwriter Anna St. Louis has long been a fixture of the greater Woodsist universe, a loose coalition of rootsy, artsy underground acts centered on the upstate New York psych-folk band Woods. Jarvis Taveniere is a core member of Woods who has collaborated with lots of great artists over the years. So it's exciting but not especially surprising that the two of them have teamed up to form a new band called Panamint. What is surprising is their early choice of repertoire.
A music video for Panamint's first single is out today. It's a cover of "Wrapped Around Your Finger," a Post Malone song from Twelve Carat Toothache, the 2022 album where he began to transition away from rap but hadn't yet gone country. St. Louis and Taveniere make it sound like a 1970s folk-pop delight. "PANAMINT our new project, releases its first track today!" the band writes on Instagram. "Wrapped Around Your Finger, our take on the Austin Post classic, is available for streaming and on bandcamp. More fun things on the way, but for now, enjoy."
