Atlanta super-producer Mike Will Made-It is one of the key figures in trap music crossing over to mainstream popularity in the '10s. He's partially responsible for blockbusters like Kendrick Lamar's "Humble" and Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles." Last week, Mike Will re-teamed with Rae Sremmurd's Swae Lee for the "Black Beatle"-esque single "Rockstar Raging." Today, he's announcing a new album called R3SET, and he's got a new single that features a couple of extremely important rappers.
In a surprisingly long trailer for R3SET and for a new documentary that he's apparently got coming out, Mike Will says that the album was partially inspired by his experience losing a hard drive with a lot of work on it. There are unconfirmed online reports that R3SET will have features from André 3000, J. Cole, Future, Pharrell, and others. We'll see about that. For now, he's got a new single called "Rooms" with both NBA YoungBoy and Chief Keef.
Right now, NBA YoungBoy (or, officially YoungBoy Never Broke Again) is probably the biggest star in the street-rap world. He's also a full-on Trump apologist who's now able to head out on arena tours after Trump pardoned him. Chief Keef, meanwhile, is a longtime Mike Will collaborator. Their long-promised collaborative album still has yet to materialize, but they did team up for the 2024 mixtape Dirty Nachos. As far as I know, "Rooms" is the first time that YoungBoy and Sosa have worked together. It's got both of them in bleary, melodic Auto-Tuned mode. Below, check out "Rooms" and the R3SET trailer.
R3SET is out 3/20 on Eardrummer/Giant Music.
