Nine Inch Noize Announce New Release Out Next Week

Over the past two years, Nine Inch Nails have done a whole lot of work with the German-Iraqi dance producer Boys Noize. This weekend, they'll play Coachella together, and they're billed as Nine Inch Noize. Just ahead of that performance, NIN have shared some very cool news that confirms a lot of recent speculation: There's a Nine inch Noize record on the way and it's coming faster than anyone predicted. NIN announced their it as part of this year's Coachella billboard season.

Nine Inch Nails confirmed the new record on social media this afternoon. It might be called Halo 38, but that's probably just the catalog number. It fits with an old NIN convention where all their albums and singles and remix collections got a "Halo" and a number. (The "Down In It" single is Halo 1, Pretty Hate Machine is Halo 2, etc.)

The NIN/Boys Noize connection goes back to 2024, when Boys Noize remixed Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' great Challengers score. Boys Noize also assisted on NIN's recent Tron: Ares soundtrack (Halo 36). Boys Noize serves as the opener on NIN's on going and incredible Peel It Back arena tour, and there's a segment during that show where Boys Noize joins Reznor and Ross onstage to do clubby, electronic takes on NIN classics. Presumably, the Coachella set will be some version of what they've been doing together.

A Nine Inch Noize album could take a lot of forms. It could be an EP, a live record, or a remix collection. But I've got my fingers crossed for a full LP of new collaborations. Halo 38 is out 4/17; pre-save it here.
