Skylar Spence Shares New 22-Minute Mix “Almost Butterflies” To Go With Hit Vibes Reissue

When we last heard from Skylar Spence last summer, the artist formerly known as Saint Pepsi was celebrating the 10th anniversary of his 2015 classic Prom King. Now it seems he's adopted a forward-looking posture, at least partially.

Spence shared a new 22-minute mix on YouTube and Bandcamp today called "Almost Butterflies." It's a fizzy, hazy, groovy, funky collection of throwback dance tunes that feels very chillwave-y to me, even if Mr. DeRobertis' roots are more vapor- than chill- where the taxonomy of waves is concerned.

"Almost Butterflies" arrives to mark Carpark Records' new reissue of 2013's Hit Vibes, originally released under the Saint Pepsi moniker, on "lemonade" yellow vinyl. You get a free download of the mix if you buy the Hit Vibes reissue on Bandcamp.

"This one is for the OG Saint Pepsi fans," the label explains on Instagram. In the comments, Spence chimes in, "THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!!! so stoked to share this with everyone, it's so so good to be back!" So be on the lookout for more from the Ryan DeRobertis camp, and in the meantime, stream "Almost Butterflies" below.

The Hit Vibes reissue is out 6/5 on Carpark. Pre-order it here.
