Hayley Williams is in the thick of her first solo tour, and she just wrapped up three nights at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, during which she brought out surprise guest Jason Isbell for a rendition of his song "Cover Me Up." Last night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, she and her backing band teamed up with another somewhat unlikely collaborator but a Colbert regular, Jeff Tweedy. Together, the respective Paramore and Wilco frontpeople did a cover of Unknown Mortal Orchestra's 2011 track "Ffunny Ffriends," "in honor of all of the funny friends who work at The Late Show."
Williams and Tweedy were both part of Bleachers' star-studded Newport Folk Festival set last year, and they also both covered This Is Lorelei songs for the Friday-bound Box For Buddy, Box For Star (Super Deluxe). Meanwhile Colbert has been pulling some particularly notable musical guest performances lately, such as Maggie Rogers doing "Alaska" for its 10th anniversary and Paul Simon doing a song he hadn't performed in over three decades. Colbert's final show is next month, and much to the chagrin of some of his late night peers, his time slot will be replaced with Byron Allen’s comedy talk show Comics Unleashed.
Also on last night's Colbert episode, Tweedy and Parks And Recreation star/Wilco superfan Nick Offerman talked about how they met and became friends. See that below.
