Olivia Rodrigo – “Drop Dead”

After lots of rumors and anticipation, Olivia Rodrigo announced her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love a couple weeks ago. The Guts followup, produced by regular collaborator Daniel Nigro, arrives in June and its lead single "Drop Dead" is finally here.

The pop wunderkind teased "Drop Dead" with murals and billboards in LA displaying the lyric, "'Cause I got chewing gum and a bunch of stuff you'd like to know." She's also been spotted out with indie rock it-boy Cameron Winter, resulting in the Geese frontman's TMZ debut (Many jokes have been made about this already, but the best is certainly "i got my drivers license last week and there’s A BOMB IN MY CAAARRRR").

"Drop Dead" comes with a music video directed by another frequent Rodrigo collaborator, Petra Collins. It features the pop star dancing around the Palace of Versailles. Watch below.

"I love this song so much!!!" Rodrigo writes. "it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!"

Paul Cartwright arranged the "Drop Dead" strings alongside Nigro, and Guts contributor Amy Allen is credited as a co-lyricist along with Nigro and Rodrigo. Aside from Cartwright on violin/viola and Sterling Laws on drums, Nigro played all the instruments.

We don't know much about the LP, although a recent Vogue story referred to it as Rodrigo's "most experimental." The same article revealed that she'd been in the studio with Robert Smith, her duet partner on the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" at last year's Glastonbury. "Drop Dead" includes the lyric "You know all the words to 'Just Like Heaven' / And I know why he wrote them / Now that you're standin' right here."
