villagerrr, the folksy, slowcore-inspired project led by Columbus musician Mark Allen Scott, have a new album coming out next month called Carousel. They announced the record with the fuzzy lead single "Locket," and then followed that up with "Swimming," a twangy ballad embellished with a good dose of pedal steel. Today villagerrr have shared the album's title track; it's the most upbeat of the singles we've heard so far, contrasting more tranquil moments with blasts of gauzy electric guitars. Lyrically, Scott seems to call out deceitful social climbers in the scene: "I'm stuck on your merry-go-round/ Do you hear that sound?" he sings. "Would you play if there was no one around?/ No clout/ Just sound." Much to consider!

Carousel is out 5/29 on Winspear.
