Here we have two of the definitive indie bands of their generation teaming up. They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, the massively influential Philadelphia shoegazers, are announcing a fall tour and teasing a new collaborative mixtape today. They're also releasing "Charter Spec," a new song in collaboration with beloved Boston slowcore act Horse Jumper Of Love. Doug Dulgarian and Dimitri Giannopoulos join forces to sing lines like "Foreign ceiling/ First bird of the morning calls/ Swollen feelings/ Don’t appear to know the rules."
We don't have details yet regarding the nature of TAGAGOW's collaborative mixtape. I don't think it's a whole disc of HJOL collabs, or else the press release would say so, but maybe we're getting Doug Dulgarian's band in partnership with a different artist on every track? That would be a fun exercise, and "Charter Spec" suggests it could be fruitful. The explosion that kicks in around 2:19 is marvelous. Last year's LOTTO set a high bar, but this lives up to it.
